What is SOC 2 Type II compliance?

Service Organization Control Type II (SOC 2) is a cybersecurity compliance framework developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

The certification is a benchmark security certification for many digitally enabled businesses, it is widely recognized and respected worldwide.

Its primary purpose is to validate how a cloud-based service provider handles sensitive information. It covers both the suitability of a company’s controls and its operating effectiveness.

To gain SOC 2 certification, companies must undergo an audit of its security controls.

Unbiased was audited by Prescient Assurance, a leader in security and compliance certifications for B2B SAAS companies worldwide and successfully completed the AICPA Service Organization Control (SOC) 2 Type II audit in October 2024. Unbiased used the Vanta trust management platform to accelerate the certification process.

The certification is in accordance with the AICPA standards for SOC for Service Organizations, also known as SSAE 18.

How does Unbiased maintain security and compliance?

Unbiased implements multiple security and compliance principles to ensure its users can simply and securely access the digital world. These include:

  • Secure personnel: Only approved personnel have access to personal and consumer data. Security awareness training is undertaken by all, and access is controlled by SSO with 2FA and supported by device managed security.

  • Secure development and testing: All development projects follow secure lifecycle principles and, adhere to Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) Top 10 standards and are regularly scanned for security vulnerabilities.

  • Cloud security: Unbiased uses best in class Google Cloud Platform infrastructure that is SOC1/2/3 and ISO27001 certified. The cloud-native security features include encryption, continuous monitoring, and compliance with SOC 2 standards while implementing strict access controls.

Achieving the certification has been a significant effort that we can all be proud of at Unbiased. The certification clearly shows to our current customers and potential customers the importance we place on safeguarding the sensitive data that we hold. As important, this demonstrates Unbiased’s commitment to moving forward as a SaaS and tech enabled business.” comments Andrew McLean, Chief Technology Officer at Unbiased.
